This sour dough uses the basic sour-dough starter recipe found here. Give yourself lots of time for the sour dough to raise properly (sometimes all day).
My mixing is done in a stand mixer on low/knead speed. If kneading by hand just make sure the consistency is right.

  • 1.5 cups starter
  • 1 cups warm water
  • 2 cups flour
  • cover, allow to activate starter about 30 minutes
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1/tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • mix above 3 ingredients and let sit for 10 minutes
  • 1 tbls salt
  • 2-3 cups flour
  • ¬†mix 10 minutes

Form into one long (french bread) loaf and put on baking sheet lined with parchment. (Stone sheets work great)

Let it raise (2-6 hours)

  • brush with cold water
  • Scar with razor blade
  • bake 425 for 25-30 minutes golden brown

Thats it, simple n sweet. Sourdough bread is much more healthier than standard breads due to the types of yeasts and raising action of the bread actually breaking down the gluten.
